SEAT Cupra Championship: SNETTERTON 6-7 August 2005
Chris Egginton reports: Having had a preseason test at Snetterton we were fairly confident of doing well. However, after only being in the car once in the last 12 weeks I was a way off the pace in the Friday test. After looking at the data it was evident that I was considerably slower into a couple of the faster corners.
Saturday 1st Qualifying I improved on my time from the previous day but I was still about half a second off what I knew I could do. However, I managed to reach 7th on the grid after penalties from the previous meeting were issued. Saturday 2nd Qualifying I managed a 1min 17.5sec lap in only 5 laps so I pulled into the pits to save the tyres for the race. I ended up 7th on the grid for the second race.

Race 1
It was all rather frantic on the first lap with plenty of close racing. After it all shock out I was behind John Young and was trying to mount an attack when on lap 3 the clutch started to slip and I was losing a lot of time. |

|
I managed to hang on to 7th, just ahead of Harry after a couple of the front runners ran into trouble. All in all a rather frustrating race, but I still got my best 'genuine' result to date.

Race 2
I had a good start and managed to get along side Alan Blencowe, in the first corner I was nudged into the pack which resulted in Alan |
being fired out of the pack. Luckily there was no serious damage to the car. This incident spread the pack out a bit more than it had been in race 1 and the 1st lap was a lot less frantic. I lost pace in the middle of the race and Ian Churchill managed to close me down, in the end I finished 7th, only a fraction of a second ahead of Ian.
