THRUXTON 30 April/1 May 2005

There wasn't a Friday test at Thruxton, so we all had to go straight into qualifying on Saturday morning. On one of the early laps I had a big moment at Church which fouled up the rest of my qualifying while I rebuilt my confidence around the back of the circuit - more learning about grip levels on cold tyres required!
With 15 cars out for race one and qualifying 11th it was going to be tough to make much head way.
I had a reasonable start and managed to latch on to the back of Dave Pinkney.
We broke clear of the cars behind and had a good race, trading places for a few laps until

Tom Ferrier started to close me down and I started to look in my mirrors rather than concentrate on Pinkney.
I managed to hold on to my 8th place, finishing just 4 tenths of a second behind Pinkney. |
| Race two was a different situation entirely. Having qualified 12th I ended up on the outside of the grid. I didn't manage to make any progress at the start and ended up behind Sam Edwards who'd a flying start from 15th. We were nose to tail for most of the race. I tried to get past several times but had the door closed at the last moment each time. I had a good run on Edwards going into Seagrave and went up the inside, unfortunately we made contact which put Sam out of the race and buckled my front left wheel.
| I managed to hold off Adrian Churchill to the end of the race, but a 1 second penalty for the incident with Edwards meant I was classified last. |
| Overall Thruxton was an improvement in performance from Donington, but there's still a long way to go. More time is needed in the car to learn to drive it to the max - I am still too cautious!
