Peter Morris [968CS] gets ahead at the start of Race 1
|
Michelin Porsche Club Championship: Rounds 11 & 12
Chris Egginton [968CS] once again put his car on pole in qualifying with a 54.6 and teammate Peter Morris [968CS] started 2nd. Ian White had to start at the back of the grid with a 10 second penalty after an incident in qualifying with Derek Gregory's 944 S2. Morris got the better start, with Egginton and Tony Brown [911RS] in pursuit. However four laps in Colin Ingram [911SC] ran wide coming onto the pit straight & on rejoining collected the 968CS of Mark Lillington, causing the race to be red flagged. It was a heavy accident, but fortunately both drivers were unharmed. |
At the restart, Morris once again took the lead, but this time with Tony Brown going into 2nd. The pair battled for 10 laps before Brown out braked himself going into Paddock Hill Bend and finished his race in the gravel. Two laps into the restart there was more drama, as Tom Segrue [944 S2], who had qualified at the front of Class 2 was involved in an incident with Lee Birkett's 911 SC, putting both cars out for the remainder of the weekend. Chris Egginton experienced problems with overheating and loss of power about 8 laps into the restart, and battled to keep the car running until the end, collecting points for 5th in Class. John Williams [3.2 Carrera] also experienced problems during the race with a sticking brake pedal and a clutch failure as he crossed the finish line. Morris took the race win; Richard Lambert [Carrera] won Class 2, with Adam Egar and David Botterill in 2nd & 3rd. |
In Class 4 Ian Oliver [911E] & Fraser Roberton [944] enjoyed some great close racing.
|
Class 3's Fraser Robertson [944] had a good battle with Ian Oliver's 911E, resulting in an uncustomary defeat. Race 2 on Sunday saw just 14 starters after six cars dropped out following incidents on Saturday. Peter Morris took the lead into Druids, but was spun out by Ian White [3.2 Carrera]. Morris rejoined in last and battled back up through the cars for the 25 minute race to eventually take 3rd from Richard Lambert after a good 4 lap battle for the position. Tony Brown, who'd had to start at the back after spinning out in the previous race, made up 9 places on his first lap and finished 2nd to Ian White who had his first race win. Richard Lambert [Carrera 3] and Ian Oliver [911E] once again picked up Class 2 and 3 honours.

Class 3's Wayne Jackson [944 turbo] & Ragdan El-Akabi [911 Carrera] battled in the extremely wet conditions.

Michelin Porsche Open Series Rounds 11 & 12:
Richard Chamberlain [935] once again set the pace in qualifying with a 47.3 lap; over a second ahead of his rivals. New to Class 1 this season was Stuart Scott with his GT Championship Porsche GT3 who started in 7th. The race saw a dramatic change in weather conditions with torrential rain. The difficult starting conditions saw Rupert Lewin [GT2R] and Scott drop back. Chamberlain immediately set the pace, with the Class 2 GT3's of Craig Rapp and Henry Firman moving up into 2nd & 3rd. However Lewin soon got to grips with the conditions and blasted back into 2nd. Class 3 saw some of the best scraps of the race. Wayne Jackson [944 Turbo] & Ragdan El-Akabi [[RS] got ahead of John Allen [993 Super Cup] at the start, and pushed on in the wet. |
However on lap 8 the pace car came out for 5 laps after an incident between Gerald Harrison [GT3 RS] and Frank Cortes [944] which left both cars beached at Druids. On the re-start Jackson lost out and El-Akabi moved up to lead, only to have Allen pass him on the tail of Lewin's GT2R as they were being lapped through Paddock Hill Bend on the last lap. With the Class 4 dominating 944 of Alex Eacock not out at Brands, Tim Bevan [944] had a fairly untroubled win in the wet. Sunday brought a return to sunny skys. Chamberlain had an unusually poor start and Rapp [GT3] stormed off the line to briefly lead. Chamberlain then went on to lap all bar one car by the end of the 25 minute race. Rapp picked up his second unchallenged win of the weekend in Class 2. Second in Class 2 was shared between Henry Firman [GT3] who took the honours on Saturday and Tony Brown [964 RSR] who recovered from an early spin to take 2nd 5 laps from the end of Sundays race. In Class 3 John Allen lead from the start and held off Wayne Jackson's 944 Turbo for 18 laps before loosing the place. Class 4 produced some of the most exciting action of the race, with Tim Bevan [944] and James Clare [924S] swapping the lead on numerous occasions before an error by Bevan on lap 22 saw him accidentally cut his engine on the way onto the pit straight. He rejoined the race to finish 2nd in Class.
