Firman collects Rookie of the Year Award
At the Porsche Club GB Motorsport Awards dinner last weekend [15 November], Henry Firman of 911virgin.com came away with the award for Rookie of the Year after a great first seasons racing in the Michelin Porsche Open Series.
“I’m thrilled to get it!” exclaimed Firman “It’s been a massive learning curve this year. I started the season in Class 3 driving a 993 and moved up to Class 2 with the GT3 for the last two rounds. In Class 3 there was such a diversity of cars racing that we were always going to struggle to win races. In the GT3, whilst the quality of drivers is arguably higher than in Class 3, it is a more transparent class with most of the action taking place with GT3 model 911`s”.
Firman adds: “Now I’m looking forward to consolidating all I’ve learnt and working with Team GVR to get some good results on the road with the GT3 next season”.
Steve Kevlin, Porsche Club Motorsport Manager explains: “This award has been given to Henry, reflecting the fact that this was his first full season of racing. He enjoys his racing, is very competitive and even though he's not taken any wins this year, he always puts in a good performance".
Team GVR picked up the Team Presentation Trophy. “This award was presented based on a number of factors” explains Steve Kevlin, “Firstly Team GVR always produces competitive cars to a very high standard of preparation and presentation, which even though this is Club Motorsport sets a bench mark we would like to aim for throughout the paddock. This award is also in recognition of the support they have given to the Porsche Club Motorsport division via their web site throughout the season.”
Gordon Wardle, Team Manager of Team GVR who accepted the award said: “I’m delighted to receive the award. The whole Team has worked really hard this year and we’re aiming to build on this success with a very strong team for the 2004 season”.
